Legionella Risk Evaluation

13.05.2020 wpadmin 0 Comments

Legionella bacteria can grow in building water systems and pose a serious risk if aerosolized or inhaled. Out Legionella Risk Evaluations are designed to identify conditions that may promote bacterial growth and to help building owners meet evolving regulatory and duty-of-care expectations.

Our evaluation, directed by Susan E White, ASSE International Certified in Legionella Water Safety & Management (#61966) follow recognized guidance from:

  • CDC
  • ASHRAE Standard 188
  • State and local health department requirements

We assess system design, operation, maintenance practices, and occupant risk factors to determine the likelihood of Legionella amplification and exposure.

Legionella Sampling Plan provides a structured, defensible approach to water testing based on building type, system complexity, and risk level. Our sampling plans include:

  • Identification of high-risk water system components
(cooling towers, domestic hot water, storage tanks, showers, decorative fountains, etc.)
  • Sampling locations and frequencies
  • Appropriate sample collection methods
  • Chain-of-custody documentation
  • Laboratory coordination with accredited labs
  • Interpretation criteria for test results

Sampling plans are customized to each facility and aligned with best practices to support informed decision-making—not just data collection.

We perform professional Legionella water sampling using industry-accepted protocols to minimize false results and cross-contamination.Testing services include:

  • Routine monitoring samples
  • Baseline system testing
  • Post-remediation verification
  • Outbreak response support
  • Pre-occupancy or reopening testing

All samples are analyzed by certified laboratories using culture or PCR methods as appropriate.

For facilities required to maintain a Water Management Program (WMP), we offer support with:

  • Program development and review
  • Documentation aligned with ASHRAE 188
  • Ongoing monitoring strategies
  • Corrective action planning
  • Annual program validation

Our goal is to help clients move from reactive testing to proactive risk control.
