The company has created a reputation for being a responsive and high-quality consultant while maintaining its competitiveness. In addition, we have developed in-house expertise in environmental consulting in the areas of Due Diligence Phase I/II property assessments, indoor environmental quality, Safety assessments for workers’ compensation and policy development, mold and moisture, asbestos, lead and other environmental concerns.
Sussex Environmental Health Consultants, LLC was created in 1998 by its’ owner Susan E. White offering environmental health consulting services for commercial and residential properties. Over the years Sussex Environmental Health Consultants has grown from a one-woman business and six-employee consulting firm of all women. Our clientele includes commercial property owners and property managers, hospitals, public and private schools, assisted living facilities, developers, builders, poultry industry, dental industry, cities and towns and private home owners.
Susan E. White, PhD, CMC, CMCC, ACAC CIEC, ASSE, Certified Legionella Water Safety & Management Specialist
Susan White has been in the consulting field since 1983 and holds several state licenses and certifications in hazardous materials including OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety. Susan currently oversees all day-to-day operations of Sussex Environmental Health Consultants, LLC including Public Relations, in-house training, document and report review, proposals, job cost review and financial matters. Before beginning Sussex Environmental Health Consultants, LLC, Susan was an Industrial Hygienist at Delmarva Power & Light and worked as a contracted Safety Officer with FEMA working on disasters in Seattle, Washington (earthquake), Louisiana (tropical storm Allison) and New York City (9/11 disaster). Susan is the owner and retains 100% ownership in the company that is women-owned and registered as such in Delaware and Maryland.
Lori A. Thomas, Industrial Hygiene Technician
Lori Thomas began in the construction field when she and her husband had a small construction company. She has been on the staff at Sussex Environmental since 1999 and holds several state licenses in asbestos and OSHA 10-hour General Industry certification. Lori is instrumental in how indoor environmental issues relate to building science and construction defects.
Kelsey M. Nickel (White), Industrial Hygiene Technician, CIE, CMC-ACAC
Kelsey White has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology from College of Charleston. She has been on the staff part time to full time since 2008 when she began working at poultry companies performing annual OSHA monitoring. Kelsey has extensive experience in indoor air quality, mold and moisture and industrial hygiene in the poultry industry. Kelsey holds asbestos inspector license in Maryland and Virginia and OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry Certification. Kelsey is also an ACAC Board Certified Indoor Environmentalist.
Alexis M. Thomas, Industrial Hygiene Technician, CIE, CMC, CFSC-ACAC
Alexis Thomas has been on the staff full time since 2012. Lexi has extensive experience in indoor air quality, mold and moisture and industrial hygiene in the dental manufacturing and poultry industry. Alexis has recently completed coursework for her Board Certification in Microbial Consulting and is awaiting to take the final exam (COVID-19 delay). Alexis holds asbestos inspector license in Maryland and Virginia and OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry certification. Alexis is also an ACAC Board Certified Indoor Environmentalist.
Kelsey R Huster, Industrial Hygiene Technician
Kelsey Huster has been on the staff full time since late 2019. Kelsey has been working in conjunction with other technicians in the fields of indoor air quality, asbestos and lead and mold and moisture and industrial hygiene in the dental manufacturing and poultry industry. Kelsey holds OSHA 10-hour General Industry certification.
Cheryl Compton, Administrator, Part Time Field Technician
Cheryl Compton has been on the staff full time since 2016. Cheryl is responsible for administrative duties and has been working in conjunction with other technicians in the fields of indoor air quality, asbestos and lead and mold and moisture and industrial hygiene in the dental manufacturing and poultry industry. Cheryl is currently working on her OSHA 30-hour Construction Industry Certification.
